Sacrificial Mission
Week 1 | The Presence of God
Week 2 | Kingdom Community
Week 3 | Transformational Discipleship
Week 4 | Sacrificial Mission
We pursue sacrificial mission by giving, serving, and loving sacrificially in our homes, our church, our community, and the world.
One of the primary ways people come to "Know God" is through God's people who are on a mission; "Practicing the Way Of Jesus."
The way of Jesus is the way of sacrifice.
Luke 9:23 “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
To truly follow Jesus means to live a life of sacrifice.
Jesus’ call to take up your cross daily is a call to living in a constant state of surrender.
Sacrificial Mission is not about convenience or comfort, but about embodying the self-giving love of Jesus, who gave up His own rights for the sake of the world.
If you give what you do not need, it isn’t giving. — Mother Teresa
Matthew 28:19 Go and make disciples of all nations,
There are few verses in the Bible that carry the weight and beauty of Romans 12:1. It is the crescendo of Paul’s epistle, where doctrine meets duty, where belief becomes practice. This single verse holds the power to transform lives, for it calls us to nothing less than complete devotion to God. — Charles Spurgeon
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
God’s mercy has a name, a face, a story; It’s Jesus!
Ephesians 2:4-5 Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Titus 3:4-5 When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
This is what motivates us to live on sacrifical mission. It’s not guilt or fear; it’s love and gratitude.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
We don’t repay but we do respond
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,
The problem with a living sacrifice is that it keeps crawling off the altar. Every day we must choose to die to ourselves, to our desires and ambitions, and to give ourselves fully to God. It’s a conscious decision, not a one-time event. — A.W. Tozer
Matthew 16:25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
When you place your life on the altar, you’re not giving up—you're stepping into real abundant life.
Romans 12:1 offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,
Bodies = the whole of your life
Romans 12:1 offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God
The only thing that makes your sacrifice holy and pleasing to God is Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Colossians 1:22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.
To offer your body and your life as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing, means you’re doing so in light of what Jesus has already done for you through the cross.
When Paul says “holy and pleasing to God,” he’s reminding us that our sacrifices aren’t about earning favor; they’re about responding to the favor we’ve already received.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God— this is your true and proper worship.
Sacrificial mission is your true and proper worship.
true - genuine, authentic.
proper worship - reasonable service.
Paul is saying that "In view of God's mercy," the only authentic, logical, reasonable response is to offer our entire life to God.
True and proper worship is about alignment.
Our mission as a follower of Jesus is to bring His presence into every space we occupy
Sacrificial mission requires a death—death to the way we want to live, to our control over our own lives, to our self-centeredness.
Sacrificial mission isn’t easy, and it’s not meant to be; it’s costly because it reflects “the way of Jesus,” who sacrificed everything for us.
